The best way to experience Northern Minnesota fishing is with a skilled and knowledgeable guide. Our Ely, Minnesota fishing guides live for fishing these waters. Let our guides put you on the best reefs, and holes and cast the most productive shorelines. They will show you the proper techniques and rigs for successfully fishing Northern Minnesota waters, which will certainly eliminate hours of trial and error. We have a number of guides that work for the Ely Fishing Guide Company. They are the best of the best! You feel like you are in the right boat when you spend a day with our guides. The Ely Fishing Guide Company has had over 25 years of actual professional guiding experience in the Ely area and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Our guides fish as a team, this is a unique advantage for our customers. You not only get to experience the knowledge and skill of your guide but all of the guides combined! We are able to keep our customers on fish by sharing information on fish locations. All of our guides are independently insured and licensed to operate in the BWCAW by the U.S. Forest Service. We set the standard for the most knowledgeable and professional guides in the area.
Package #1 - Famed Basswood Lake
Basswood Lake Smallmouth Bass
Portage into the famous Basswood Lake in the Boundary Waters Wilderness. This is one of, if not the Northern Minnesota Fishing Lake. As the producer of Walleye over 14lbs., our state record Northern Pike 45lbs 12oz., and Smallmouth over 6lbs., this lake has what most anglers are looking for - an excellent population of game fish as well as a legitimate shot at the catch of a lifetime. It is important to note that this lake is in a motorized portion of the Boundary Waters so entry will require a day-use motor permit. There are two different entry points for Basswood lake, both offer a unique wilderness experience for all. These permits are reserved quickly so early reservations are a must! If you are interested, please give us a call as soon as possible.

Package #2 - The Ely, MN Area Lakes/Local Lakes
White Iron Lake Walleye
Fish the water right outside your cabin door in the comfort of one of our big boats. The lakes we fish are the White Iron chain. Birch, Snowbank, Burntside, Vermillion, and many other smaller lakes in the Ely Area. The fastest and most productive way to learn about the lakes is with a guided trip. While on your vacation, we know your time is limited. We will teach you locations and techniques that will help you catch more fish safely and comfortably! Package #3 - Remote Lakes/Boundary Waters Motorboat Lakes
There are several Boundary Waters Lakes we fish. Fish where access is limited in the pristine Boundary Waters Wilderness in the comfort and stability of an efficient motor boat. We also explore the lakes outside and on the fringe of the Boundary Waters. Hiking or driving into one of these more remote lakes found in the North woods can add to your adventure. These are great fishing trips as you may be the only people fishing these waters. These gems go relatively unfished throughout the season due to their isolated location and in some cases unknown fish populations. This is the trip for those who want to add a little excitement to their fishing experience.

Package #5 - Grand Slam
The ultimate guided fishing adventure. The grand slam package includes 3 days of guided fishing! This Package lets you experience everything we have to offer, and is customized to you. You can fish on 3 different lakes, go for 3 different species of fish, or spend three days looking for the big one - whatever you want, It's up to you! Fish for Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, or Muskies! This is truly the best way to experience fishing in the North. No trial and error, no time spent wandering the lake looking for the best fishing holes, just guided fishing at its best!

Package # 6 - Fishing Base camps (overnight trips)
Many of our customers want to enjoy more than just a day trip. We offer fully outfitted, fully guided, fishing base camps on Basswood Lake and the rest of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. These are motorboat base camps/tent camps. Our deluxe camps are a great way to experience the BWCAW, but still have some of the comforts of home.
The base camp package includes:
guide or guides, boats, motors, gas, bait, fresh food meals,
tents, sleeping bags, cots, sleeping pads, and all other necessary camp gear.
does not include: taxes, gratuities, licenses, portage fees, permit/routing and camping fees.
For an extra fee your camp can be completely set up and taken down for you. All you have to do is show up and relax and let us do all the work for you!
Rates with one guide:
1-3 people: $575 per person per day
Rates with two guides:
4-6 people: $500 per person per day
Minimum of 3 days and 2 people. 1 day is a full or partial day
Shore Lunch
Shore lunch is an option for those who want to savor their morning catch. Sit on the shore while your guide prepares a delicious meal of fresh fish with the Ely Fishing Guide Company’s top secret batter along with fried potatoes, onions, and specially made diced-up venison sausage. It has over the years been developed to perfection. Shore lunch does take a bit of time out of your fishing day but it’s a nice break and is the highlight of the trip for many.

Payments: The trip balance must be paid in full to your guide at the end of the trip. Please be prepared with one of the following payment methods.

Visa and Mastercard are gladly accepted (sorry no American Express). Credit card payments must be made before your trip. Your guide will NOT able to process a credit card in remote locations. There is a 4.5 percent service fee applied to all credit card payments.
Deposit: We require a deposit to confirm your trip.
All trips require a $200 per day, per guide deposit.
For groups of 6 or more people or 3 or more days, a 50% deposit is required.
Overnight trips require a 50% deposit in advance. The remaining balance is due prior to departure.
Cancellation Policy: The deposits are nonrefundable if cancellation is less than 30 days of your trip date. Trips cancelled more than 30 days before of your trip date will be charged a $25 service fee or 10% of your deposit, which ever is greater.

Gratuity/tipping; If you have a good experience and your guide works hard make sure to let us know. Gratuity is customary and greatly appreciated! For groups of 6 or more people or 3 or more days, an 18 percent gratuity will be automatically added unless otherwise agreed upon before your trip.
